Art Of Persuasion And What You Should Know To Take Advantage Of It

The art of persuasion is an excellent skill. For hundreds of years, it has been skills which humankind has been using to survive. You can see the history for some examples such as the ancient Greeks used the art of persuasion to negotiate with their neighboring lands all the time. Leaders of different nations also like to use these skills by always sending ambassadors to settle peace negotiations. The art of persuasion is also used in business, for example, traders of both the old and the new world use their powers of persuasion to sweeten their deals.

Nowadays, many people want to become great persuaders and have the ability to easily convince other people to agree with them, or to do what they suggest that they do. People realize the fact that they can not lack the art of persuasion in marketing because they need to have this skill in order to close the deal. Many people agree that it is very important to have effective persuasion to help them more successful and you can have many ways to learn this skill. But not all of them know that the most secret of success is the ability to persuade other people, influence others and take then to your way of thinking. This is a very useful ability especially in boosting up your sales and business if you are working as a business man.

To become a great persuader, you should practice your art of persuasion on a properly targeted marketing strategy. This means that you should have a clear purpose to your marketing strategy and this purpose must be well-defined even at the beginning. You should also be pleasant in your approach. The art of persuasion does not have to be aggressive, or if it is, the customers do not need to know about it. You should act casual and cool and always very professional in meeting all your deals.

Here are the most common tips and ways which you can take advantage of to persuade others or influence them.

First, you should know that knowledge is power. To become a great persuader in the art of persuasion, knowledge is very important. How much you know determines the extent of your power over the other. Before you attempt to persuade someone, you have to know everything there is to know about the people you will be speaking with. You should find out their weaknesses, their requirements, etc. If you know these things, you can prepare better points for arguments and have an easier time persuading people to see things your way as well.

Secondly, you should establish common goals. When you use the art of persuasion, you must remember that both parties should benefit from the deal. As much as possible, you should try to make the deal a win-win situation for everyone.

Thirdly, you should try the grassroots approach because it will help you earn popularity. You had better try to develop a certain relationship with your clients, don’t treat them like cash cows. The grassroots approach requires you to relate with the people you are trying to persuade. Drop your high and mighty attitude and start knocking on doors. In any given situation you should use the most appropriate methods for the circumstances and the person you are dealing with and move between the different methods if your chosen one is not working. Also consider the sequence in which you use the different methods as some sequences work better than others.

A Glimpse of the 2010 Commonwealth Games

Expecting as many as 52 member countries to join the event, the organizers of this year’s Comm Games are excited to push through with their plans. This quadrennial event is a smaller scale version of the Olympics participated in by Commonwealth nations.

The host for 2010 Commonwealth Games is New Delhi. Since India and New Delhi governments are expecting a large number of tourists to visit the event, elaborate arrangements have been formulated to ensure an incident-free event. Security concerns have been the top priority for both governments. There are specially selected Tourist Police that will keep the peace during the said event. They will be deployed in all important public places and tourist hubs such as airports, bus terminals, railway stations, and even taxi booths. Tourist Police officers will also act as interpreters and guides to tourists finding their way. In terms of infrastructure, there are also major developments to better accommodate millions of visiting tourists.

The services and hospitality industry are the major considerations during the planning of the event.?During the planning by the organizers, it was found out that there was an inadequate accommodation in New Delhi to cater to the needs of about the projected 3.5 million fans and tourists. It was therefore imperative for the Delhi government to ensure there is enough accommodation for such a large number of visitors. An additional 25,000-room accommodation was implemented in and around the city. Private hotels also improved their services and infrastructure in response to the call of the government.

Tourist destinations in the area were also upgraded as part of the overall planning. Attractions such as Khajuraho, Jaisalmer, Nainital, Mussorrie, Shimla, Agra, and Jaipur were renovated as thousands of tourists are expected to visit them during the 2-week event. Developers descended upon supporting establishments in and around the sites such as railway system, bus terminals, road and air networks, and hotel accommodations as the government gave away subsidies for further improvements.

Event organizers revealed that as many as 8000 athletes will compete in the games. Speaking of games, there will be 17 major type of sports to be played including cycling, boxing, weightlifting, hockey, gymnastics, swimming, and a variety of athletics. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Games will start on October 3 and will end in October 14.

The major site where athletes and participants will be housed is called the Commonwealth Games village. It is located along Highway 24. The development cost of this picturesque location reached about USD 230 million. The area will have 24/7 police personnel and round the clock water and electricity supply. As part of the world effort to reduce pollution, the 2010 Commonwealth Games is also promoted as green Games. There are a number of measures to minimize pollution during the games.

Needless to say, Commonwealth Games preparation was a serious business for Indian government. This International event will become a good measure of how well the country handles International competitions, as well as its ability to project itself as a major economic force in the region.

Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse

What to me or many interested readers might be a great novel, to students and many others who may not be open to experiment, To The Light House may be boring; if not un-readable.

Stream of consciousness

Stylistically, the novel belongs to the genre that today we know as “stream of consciousness.” In this genre, the reader is expected to follow the voices, echoes, remembrances, and associations in the characters heads. Of course, if the reader has no clue as to what this new way of writing is about, the result will be negative.

Filled with mystifying sentences, the reader must piece together the events and so create the portrait of a family and close friends. The novel is difficult, but the rewards are great, for we can learn about the changes wrought by war, death, marriage, age, and aging itself.

To The Lighthouse is novel split into three sections, which is not to be confused with beginning, middle, and end. Each section is dedicated to different periods in the lives of the Ramsay family as they vacation at their summer home in Scotland during these periods (from 1910 to 1920). As we learn of the events and anecdotes -mundane, unimportant, and banal- that shape their lives, we realize that though these incidents may be viewed as commonplaces, what makes them gain respect (in the author’s selection) is the way in which they connect the characters.

Yes, stream-of-consciousness is very important to the structure of the novel because it puts the reader in the minds of the various characters and very much in the moment of the novel. But the style of the novel is important beyond the technique.

Is the lighthouse more than a lighthouse?

Besides being a thing, a human structure, the lighthouse becomes the central symbol of the passage of time:

“The Lighthouse was then a silvery, misty-looking tower with a yellow eye that opened suddenly and softly in the evening. Now-
James looked at the Lighthouse. He could see the white-washed rocks; the tower, stark and straight; he could see that it was barred with black and white; he could see windows in it; he could even see washing spread on the rocks to dry. So that was the Lighthouse, was it?
No, the other was also the Lighthouse. For nothing was simply one thing. The other Lighthouse was true爐oo.”

James as a child wanted more than anything else in his life to go to the lighthouse, but his father denies him that. As we can see in the above excerpt, when James finally gets there, the real lighthouse isn’t as truthful as the remembrance of it as when he was a child.

What changes can we discern?

What may turn off many readers may be the lack of punctuation. The assumption is that since humans do not consciously put punctuation into their thoughts, they should also exclude them in their writing. As a result the thoughts of the Ramsay’s and other characters become run-on sentences. Very little dialogue do we find in this book, since all of the conversations that occur are described as the thoughts of one of the characters involved in the conversation.

Themes

First, we see how ephemeral life is: life and work and everything is transient, meaning that nothing in life is solid, predictable, and stable. Next, that art may supply the means to anchor us to creations that will exist forever, unlike other affairs such as politics. Let’s follow what’s in the mind of Lily Briscoe, the young painter and friend of the family:

“It partook… of eternity… there is a coherence in things, a stability; something, she meant, is immune from change, and shines out (she glanced at the window with its ripple of reflected lights) in the face of the flowing, the fleeting, the spectral, like a ruby; so that again tonight she had the feeling she had had once today, already, of peace, of rest. Of such moments, she thought, the thing is made that endures.”

For ten years -the time of the novel- she works on a canvas that she finally finishes when the Ramsay’s reach the lighthouse.

Beauty, life, reality, and happiness are relative concepts since they can be perceived in countless different ways. Mrs. Ramsay’s happiness is paradoxical: while she admires her husband, she is incapable of saying to him that she loves him:

She could not say it…. As she looked at him she began to smile, for though she had not said a word, he knew, of course he knew, that she loved him. He could not deny it. And smiling she looked out of the window and said (thinking to herself, Nothing on earth can equal this happiness)-
“Yes, you were right. It’s going to be wet tomorrow. You won’t be able to go.” And she looked at him smiling. For she had triumphed again. She had not said it: yet he knew

Beautiful, domestic, loving, Mrs. Ramsay also succumbs to life, for she dies unexpectedly in her fifties. But because of those mundane bits of life that she experienced with her family, she could say: “Nothing on earth can equal this happiness.”

With a little patience, mental agility to connect, and love of language, To The Lighthouse could be an enjoyable piece of literature.

Paul Coelho’s The Alchemist – Pseudo Neoplatonist’s Sour Mash

Every time I read an inspirational book I go to it –like Descartes– with a skeptical mind. What platitudes will I read, I ask myself. What commonplaces, pseudo-sage advice will I have to put up with? Although Paul Coelho’s novelette is passable, it verified and concretized what I had feared: that it was a book filled with warmed up advice for the philosophically immature.

The story flows like a tame stream with highs and lows along which we encounter strange but charismatic characters. It is the quest story of a shepherd boy who follows his dream to find a treasure. It is a dream that causes the boy to give up his current existence in order to go in search of his destiny.

The protagonist is Santiago, the shepherd boy whose adventure we follow: his crusade to reach the pyramids of Egypt after going across the desert.

A gypsy woman and a mysterious king advise him to pursue his destiny. The old man says to Santiago: “To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation. All things are one. And, when you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

Let’s do a bit of analysis: ‘To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation,’ is a platitude. Aren’t well all realizing our destinies as we move in life? And what are we to make of “All things are one?” Oh, yes, that’s the mantra -the nous- spewed by the Neo-Platonist Plotinus in the 3rd century. And if that wasn’t enough, we are treated to other similar cliches:

“People learn early in their lives what is their reason for being. Maybe that’s why they give up on it so early, too.

“If you start out by promising what you don’t even have yet, you’ll lose your desire to work toward getting it.

“God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the omens that he left for you.

“The Soul of the World is nourished by people’s happiness. And also by unhappiness, envy, and jealousy.

Through Santiago’s life Coelho shows how great life can be and that nothing is easy, but if you believe in yourself and your dreams you can find your fortune in life. This book, once you finish reading it, will (supposedly) help you think about your own life, about your purpose in this life, and how to achieve happiness. Yet, it is the protagonist who must choose whether to stay in his current status or to keep walking and taking risks.

Along the way, Santiago also learns by negative reinforcement, as he listens to the Crystal merchant:

” I’m afraid that if my dream is realized, I’ll have no reason to go on living.

“I don’t want to change anything, because I don’t know how to deal with change. I’m used to the way I am.

“Every blessing ignored becomes a curse. I don’t want anything else in life. But you are forcing me to look at wealth and at horizons that I have never known. Now that I have seen them, and now that I see how immense my possibilities are, I’m going to feel worse than I did before you arrived. Because I know the things I should be able to accomplish, and I don’t want to do so.

And if the Crystal man doesn’t bore you to death with his myopia, there’s the English man who with his telescopic vision will definitely bring you to a yawn:

“When you want something with all your heart, that’s when you are closest to the Soul of the World. It’s always a positive force.

“Everything on earth is being continuously transformed, because the earth is alive… and it has a soul. We are part of that soul, so we rarely recognize that it is working for us.

The structure of the story can be compared with the style of life of obstinate people who like heat-seeking missiles do not deviate from their target. Obsession will get them there. Chase a dream until they get it. So, in this context the story has practical value-we must act.

Coelho’s writing is smooth and fluid; it runs off the page at a fair pace, and you should be able to gobble it up in one sitting. Million copies of this book have been sold world-wide and if you haven’t read it yet, go ahead and satisfy your curiosity. You’ll make Paul Coelho a few bucks richer with your purchase, but at the same time you’ll feel like he’s picked your pocket, for in the end you’ll be left with nothing concrete but cliches and platitudes.

Give me Jonathan Livingston Seagull instead any day. At least the dumb seagull taught me how to fly with my own words.

Navratri Festival 2009

Navratri is the most Famous Festival of Gujarat around the world. Navratri is group of ‘nine nights’, where Gujarti people enjoy festival with joy and relious, for nine nights. This is an ancient and colourful festival. Navratri honours the one Divine Shakti or Force which supports the entire universe, and is personified as the Mother Goddess. She protects her worshippers, destroys evil and grants boons to her children. This Navratri Festival is essentially religious in nature.

Navratri is celebrated with true devotion in the various temples dedicated to Mataji. This is also true of the temples which usually have a constant stream of visitors from morning to night.

The most Interesting point is the Ras-Garba, a circular dance executed by men and women around an ceramic pot called a Garbo. A silver coin is placed within the pot, called a kumbh, and coconut has also been placed on the top. As the performers circle the pot, a singer and a drummer provide the musical. The participants clap in a steady rhythm. Nowadays, loudspeakers are used to enhance the sound which grows to a crescendo. The Garbo normally starts slowly, and it becomes faster and faster as the music too becomes more fast. Gujarat is famous for its Ras-Garba around the world.

Another interesting feature of Navaratri is the Dandia Ras, in which men and women join the dance in circle with Dandia (a small wooden stick). In this dance, men and women strike the dandias together and the singer and drummer make it more exciting. The Ras-Garba are so popular around the Gujarat, so some people and companies are now held the competitions. Also Big Prizes are given to the winner in various categories, like the Traditional costumes, Style of Dance, Best Dandia-Ras Couple, Best Garba Style and more. All the winners are judged by the selected judges.

Nowadays, Ras-Garba is held in the Party Plots, Clubs, Farm and taking entrance fees for the Ras-Garba. Some of the Singer and the drummer are so popular because of the Ras-Garba. The Dances normally starts at night and continues to early morning.

The Cost of…….Perfume

The Cost of…..Perfume

Like the wine industry, the fragrance business is built on noses – when your product is designed to appeal to the olfactory senses it pays to have the best noses in the business working for you. However, in the fragrance industry, there are only four businesses producing 90 per cent of the world’s perfumes.

These four fragrance houses – IFF, Givaudan, Quest International and Firmenich – launch between 150 and 250 new scents every year. Each produces certain brands for conglomerates such as Proctor & Gamble, Unilever and L’Or閍l. Launching a perfume like Calvin Klein’s CK-One costs millions, but if the masses are prepared to splash out ?30 for a little frosted glass bottle of the stuff, then the expense is quickly recouped.

On a more exclusive level, and vying with Calvin Klein as perfume’s number-one brand, is Chanel. A 116ml bottle of Chanel No5 will cost about ?350, which can be expensive if, like Marilyn Monroe, that is all you wear to bed.

If money is no object, then head for one of the specialist independent parfumiers such as Creed, in Paris, and Demeter, in New York. Britain’s own Arthur Burnham and Arfaq created the world’s most expensive perfume, Parfum VI.

For ?47,500 you get a small gold and platinum bottle, studded with rubies and diamonds, and a scent which, for that price, you’d hope would be immediately distinguishable from any other.

Roja Dove’s haute parfumiere at Harrods held a private event to launch the V1 Perfume created by Arfaq and Arthur Burnham. “His creations come from pure genius”, Roja Dove commented.

There is the suspicion that the bottle itself accounts for most of Parfum VI’s price. Given that only 173 exist, it may join the scent bottles made by Ren? Lalique at the top of collectors’ lists. The record for a Lalique bottle is ?38,000, but his Bouchons Mures (dating from 1920) is worth about ?10,000, and Bouchon Trois Hirondelles, with a stopper shaped like three swallows in flight, is valued at about ?6,000.

Those on a budget in search of the ultimate personal fragrance should go to Grasse in Provence. This town is perhaps the world’s perfume capital, being home to several major factories. Tours are available and most offer visitors the chance to mix their own perfume. It costs just ?20 to visit Galimard’s Studio de Fragrances, but the bouquets on offer – lavender, thyme and orange – can smell more like potpourri than perfume.

CK-One ad campaign ?15 million
CK-One eau de toilette ?30 per 100ml
Chanel No5 ?350 for 116ml
IFF turnover approx ?1 billion
Arthur Burnham and Arfaq’s Parfum VI ?47,500
Lalique scent bottle up to ?38,000
Creating your own perfume ?20

Atlanta Concierge – What is a concierge?

Atlanta Concierge – What is a concierge?

According to Princeton’s web dictionary a concierge is “a French caretaker of apartments or a hotel; lives on the premises and oversees people entering and leaving and handles mail and acts as janitor or porter”. Although over the years the term has been used and applied in other ways. In fact now the term is being used by many businesses which claim to be a concierge or concierge service provider.

The businesses provide those same services that where once done by a caretaker that live on the premises. But now these concierge companies provide caretakers that come to a house or other premises that need specific jobs or tasks done.

Really the types of jobs a concierge can provide are almost endless, ranging from things like grocery shopping to mowing the lawn. They can even plan a partly for special event for you (more on event planning atlanta).

Since many companies are offering these services and the caretaker is no longer living on the premises and you might get a different caretaker for each task or the next time you hire them for a project so the quality and speed of their work should be rather important.

Therefore the things I’d look for in a concierge company is:

  1. Their response time – how fast do they answer my calls and how fast do that get the job or task done.
  2. What type of workmanship do they provide – is the quality of their work good or do I have to redo the same task they were paid to do.
  3. Do the go above the call of duty – are they willing to putt a little more effort into the work they are doing and provide you with something of value that is better than what you intent for the cost.

Well, I hope that helps answer your questions on concierge and provides you with some tips on choosing your next one. You can find more information about this subject on our website at Atlanta concierge.

Proper Etiquette at Vienna Balls

Now that the ball season in Vienna is in full swing, many people who have never been to this event might be interested to go this year. But wait! Before you go there, it might be worth learning about the proper etiquette at this formal event. Knowing the right ways to behave will ensure that you won’t get embarrassed and out of place there.

Dancing skills are a must when attending. Don’t worry, though, if you don’t know how to dance because dance lessons are provided for free. Normally, six free dance lessons are offered before the ball takes place including one session in the afternoon of the date of the ball itself. The dances covered include the Viennese Waltz, Grand March, Fledermaus Quadrille, polka and the gallop.

Anybody interested to learn how to dance and even those who cannot make it to the ball can attend the session. Nothing to worry if you have two left feet because it’s easy to learn the ball dances. In addition, no partner is necessary because dance partners are rotated during the dance lessons.

During the ball itself, it’s proper etiquette for men to ask women with no escorts to dance. Couples are also encouraged to dance with other people.

For the women, keep in mind that when a man asks you to dance, it does not necessarily mean that he is already in love with you or is interested in you.

When a couple is dancing, it’s unethical for other men to cut in and ask the lady to dance. Etiquette calls for men to let a couple finish their dance first before inviting the lady to dance with him.

Women are also allowed to decline a man’s invitation to dance. But this is only if she is tired or has already committed to dance to another man. She you can just assure the gentleman to dance with him at a later time.
